A doula provides continuous, non-medical care across pregnancy, labour, birth and the early postpartum period. At MAIA House, this typically includes:
1-2 personalised prenatal sessions and a collaborative Birth Map (Birth Cartography®)
WhatsApp access throughout pregnancy until end of doula support
24/7 on-call from 37 weeks
Continuous in-person labour support with hands-on comfort measures (counter-pressure, massage, position changes, breath coaching, reassurance, advocacy)
After birth, your doula remains for up to ~2 hours and follows up with targeted postpartum visits
Extended support is available via our Postpartum Doula package (up to ~16 weeks).
Our doulas are trained in physiology-based movement and positioning (e.g., OMP, Spinning Babies®, Franklin Method®) and work in a coordinated way with OBGYNs and allied specialists.

A midwife is a trained medical professional who is able to deliver babies. However, in Singapore, only obstetricians are authorized to do so; they are responsible for your care while midwives play more of a support role during your labor and birth.
A doula is non-clinical; we don’t do any medical tasks. We fill in the gaps in maternity care, providing continuous physical, emotional, informational and advocacy support to our clients. Unlike a midwife or a nurse, we are not hired by the hospital. We are hired by you and will work together with you leading up to and during birth and postpartum.

Parents working with MAIA House commonly report greater calm, clearer decision-making, and more partner involvement. Evidence also associates continuous doula support with lower caesarean rates, more spontaneous vaginal births, and reduced use of pharmacologic pain relief for low-risk births. Partners tend to rate the experience more positively when a doula is present.
Movement-friendly, physiology-based labour support (upright positions, freedom to move, targeted techniques) is also recommended by organizations like WHO/ACOG to reduce labour length and unnecessary interventions—skills your MAIA House doulas are trained to coach.
Beyond the day of birth, continuity of care across pregnancy, birth and postpartum is linked with better breastfeeding and mental-health outcomes; MAIA House operationalises this through one steady guide coordinating a trusted network around you.
-
Yes! Most doulas only attend hospital births but there are a handful who attend home births as well. MAIA House doulas can attend both as we strongly believe birthers should be supported in what they think is the best for them and their families. We have experience with unmedicated vaginal births, VBACs, births with epidurals, twin vaginal births, breech vaginal births, water births, in-labor and elective Cesareans.
